Senior dogs and why now is the perfect time for photos

There’s something about an older dog. The grey around the muzzle, the way they choose their spot on the sofa so carefully, the slow tail wag when you walk in. Senior dogs have a gentleness that’s easy to take for granted — until you realise how few photos you actually have of them, just as they are now.

“I’ll book it when…”

We hear it a lot: when the weather’s better, when we’ve had a haircut, when she’s less stiff. But there’s rarely a perfect moment, and older dogs don’t need one. Their story is written all over them right now, and it’s beautiful. If you’ve been meaning to book, this is your gentle nudge.

How we keep senior sessions comfortable

  • At home, if that’s easiest. The Snug Indoor means no car journey and no unfamiliar ground — just their own bed, their own smells and soft window light.
  • Short and slow. We work in small bursts with plenty of rest in between, and we never ask a stiff dog to jump, climb or hold a pose.
  • Lying down is perfect. Some of the loveliest senior portraits are of a dog snoozing in a sunbeam with their head on your lap.
  • We work around health needs. Hearing loss, cloudy eyes, wobbly back legs — just let us know and we’ll adapt.

Include yourself in the photos

If there’s one thing we’d gently encourage, it’s this: get in the frame. Your hands on their head, their nose tucked into your neck, the two of you on the sofa together. Years from now, those are often the images people come back to most.
